In the past 5 years, more than 72000 posts of class III-IV have been abolished by Indian Railways in different zones, stating them as unnecessary posts. Railways said that technological advancements are leading to abolition of some posts. After this, more posts will be abolished after getting the approval of the Railway Board. Contract employees are being hired by abolishing the posts in the Railways. RRB NTPC vacancies are also decreasing. Indian Railways is the largest employer in India. It used to give an opportunity of joining the prestigious government sector. More than 2 lakh posts are still unfilled under the technical-safety and non-technical categories.
What do you guys think about this move of railways abolishing the permanent posts and hiring on contract basis? Is this a move towards the privatisation of Indian Railways? What can the government do on the structural unemployment issue ?
